Avatar: The Last Airbender Review

This is the first game we rented with our new Wii. I have to say that I have really enjoyed playing (34 yr old mom). My seven year old daughter also enjoys it. The game play is very simple, allowing you to conquer the "boss" in each level after trying just a couple times or even the first time you try. My daughter was also able to play without getting frustrated.
Even though it might be too easy for hard core gamers, there are still several levels to the game that make it more than a kiddie game. You can try to find all the hidden objectives in each level, and the items you collect are an interesting mix of headbands, rings, robes, boots, and various amulets and ingredients for potions. I found myself rushing to get dinner finished so we could spend more time at play!

Trauma Team Review

When I first heard about this game it was here on Amazon and watching gameplay videos on youtube. SIDE NOTE:For anyone buying their kids games for any system [especially Wii] and are not sure what games are suitable or good I would suggest doing this! I mention this because I look into all games before purchasing them to make sure I'm not wasting money. I'd have to say Trauma Team is worth every penny. This is the first game I bought for Wii [black version/motion plus] and it does utilize all the Wii controls to a very good extent. Although I would agree with other reviewers that the controls on the nun-chuck peripheral do tend to change between each story arc. It gets confusing but the game does guide you through how to use them. Also in defense of the change in peripherals on the nun-chuck you get Ranks in each of the six fields to improve on which help you become more acquainted with the different fields. I found that it gave the game much more replay value and made it a lot more fun.

In Trauma Team, players will encounter unprecedented depth across six distinct fields of medicine: play as a general surgeon, diagnostician, E.M.T., orthopedic surgeon, endoscope technician, and medical examiner. My personal favorites were general surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, E.M.T and medical examiner. I found the controls for the endoscopic technician to be a little confusing and the diagnostician game-play I would agree was rather boring at times. The diagnostician and the medical examiner are the two fields that are definitely designed for the casual aspects of gaming in Trauma Center. In medical examiner your helping the FBI solve murder mysteries so the game-play is more reasoned based and requires thinking rather than speed to accomplish your goals. The same goes for the diagnostician who interviews patients to find ailments and matches them up with whats known. I found the E.M.T missions to be very challenging but rewarding considering you have to shift between numerous patients. Orthopedic surgeon and general surgeon were incredibly fun and I'd say that all fields to a certain extent utilize the Wii controls and peripherals nicely.

I was expecting this game to be a lot of fun and it was. It also has a lot of replay value which I find incredibly important in any form of media entertainment. I haven't played the previous installments New Blood and Second Opinion but I will definitely check those out. I would also like to point out that the story/plot-line was amazing and I felt that the developers did a great job developing the characters. When the developers can make you feel for the characters and get personal with them then they're doing something right. I originally bought this game because I'm a huge fan of anime and comic books so to see characters rendered in anime style and backgrounds designed like a comic there would be no reason why I wouldn't fall in love with this game. Its good to get away from murdering countless people in RDR or setting off nukes in MW2 to sit down and save lives for a change. Wii needs to make more games like this! I hope to see sequels of this franchise soon Atlus.

Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 3 Review

I got this game because of previous thrills playing other Spider Man games, and this one is no disappointment.

Controls:
The controls are confusing and occasionally not responsive, but they're some of the most creative I've seen for the DS. Very few games make good use of the touch screen, but this one was a success on this factor. Overall Rating- *****

Gameplay:
The gameplay is simply beat up bad guys and bosses. It takes a lot of beating up baddies to get sick of it, but they could have done a better job on the boss fights. Rather than having the bosses perform different attacks, forcing you to counter and retaliate, figuring out the boss's weakness, like in Spider Man Friend or Foe, you simply find some kind of thing, like smoke, and force the villain to come in contact with it. I haven't done very many of the boss fights, though, so don't blame me if they suddenly get better in the middle of the game. The only other complaint is that the factor of which enemies appear seems random. This way not sound like much, but it's actually a big deal since some enemies are a LOT stronger than others. However, the black suit's rage meter is a nice addition. Overall Rating- ***

Storyline:
The story of the movie is always too small to cram into a video game, so extensions always have to be added, but they actually make it pretty neat. In between boss fights, you aid DeWolfe by stopping gangs from doing stuff like taking over chemical factories. Also, when an important part of the story arises, it is sometimes told in newspaper form, where it shows pictures from the newspaper as the characters talk. Overall Rating- ****

Graphics and Sound:
The graphics are pretty good for a DS game, although the small size of characters makes it somewhat hard to tell who or what they are. The music is average, nothing you want to hea over and over again, but also nothing that forces you to turn it off. It seems like most think that Tobey (the guy who plays Spider Man in the movies) voicing as his same role in the game is a huge deal, but for the most part, it sounds like he is really, really, bored. Plus, I usually can't hear what he is even saying, mumbling some lame joke, apparently. Overall Rating- ***

In conclusion, this game is a great buy for enjoyment in between releases of the real wonders, but don't expect anything legendary. Final Overall Rating- ****

Groovin Blocks

Groovin Blocks Review

Wow, this game like hooked to my brain and won't let go...it's a very rewarding and unique game...it's like Musical Rhythm Tetris. Sounds crazy geeky but it's not - it's crazy b*tchin. I'm 29, i.e. I can get into clubs and love to dance, and this game is an awesome mashup...sorta-tetris, sorta-DDR, ALL fun.

I am in love with stuff like Excite Truck, Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros, but to me this is a very welcome and even mature-feeling (because of the killer grooves) game. Like yeah it doesn't have the same depth, but I love to dance and it just feel killer rewarding when you hit beats (they hit a little after the beat, so you can't really rely on the music, and somehow this makes the game way better and more rewarding). Can't explain it, just try it! Well worth the twenty spot.

It gets you in this "high" zone, it's crazy.

- Matt

Groovin Blocks Feature

  • Play to the rhythm of the music to increase your score, and try to hit ¿Superbeats¿ to double your multiplier.
  • High intensity original soundtrack¿play puzzles on your favorite songs again and again!
  • Go for the high score in over 50 levels¿the beats get faster and the stages get harder!
  • Multiplayer modes use a handicapping system, so players of all abilities can compete against each other.
  • Play a friend in Head-to-Head mode and use your power-ups as attack moves on your opponent.

Groovin Blocks Overview

Get ready for a puzzle game unlike any you’ve ever seen! Groovin’ Blocks brings a new twist to classic puzzle gameplay. It’s addictive! Maneuver colorful blocks and drop them in like-colored clusters to clear the board. But this is not your average puzzle game. The successful WiiWare game is getting beefed up for an expanded experience for Wii! All new levels, brand new songs, and hours of more puzzling gameplay! And for the first time, you’ll be able to take Groovin’ Blocks on-the-go with a whole new iPhone edition! Play to the music with Groovin’ Blocks!
