Thrillville: Off the Rails Review

Overview

I bought this game hoping to get a console equivalent of Rollercoaster Tycoon, the quintessential amusement park simulator. While Thrillville is not as good in many respects, the 50 mini games included on the disc make the purchase more than worthwhile.

Rollercoaster Construction

Undoubtedly the most fun part of an amusement park simulator should be its rollercoasters. Thrillville borrows heavily from RC Tycoon's style of building rollercoasters, but the style is far more carefree, surrendering a lot of the strategy and satisfaction involved in RC Tycoon. Whereas RC Tycoon forced you to plan carefully and consider physics and intensity, Thrillville encourages you to just go for it, ignoring physics and gravity entirely, and still providing a steady stream of enthusiastic riders even when you provide drops and turns so intense that they'd kill most real people. The Wii remote interface further encourages this approach with its loose, fluid control style. It's a little tricky to get the track to do exactly what you're planning, but if you just let go and start clicking away, the track almost seems to develop a mind of its own, coming up with crazy drops, rises, and turns in response to every little movement of the hand, leaving you with something pretty fun that you really hadn't been planning. One nice bonus that Thrillville provides here which RC Tycoon really should have is an option to have the game finish the track for you. In RC Tycoon, you could spend an hour trying to find a way to connect what you'd been building back to the original starting track at the end. Thrillville can do it for you with the touch of a button. All in all, Thrillville's ride construction is still fun, but it lacks the strategy and planning of RC Tycoon, creating something simpler and mindless.

PARK MANAGEMENT

In RC TYCOON, you could control every aspect of your park, from where you placed your rides to the color and style of a flower bed that you chose to install. Thrillville offers significantly less freedom, giving you absolutely no control over park layout or appearances, and designating specific areas where you can clumsily install shops and stalls and other specific areas where you can build Roller Coasters. It doesn't really allow you to be creative or give the park any personality beyond what the game designers gave it. It also severely limits the amount of Roller Coasters you can build (and no, you can't have two coasters intertwining or anywhere near each other for that matter). This aspect of the game is a tremendous disappointment.

STAFF

Whereas RC Tycoon prompted you to use real strategy in deciding how many janitors, engineers, and entertainers to hire and what routes to give them, Thrillville measures the staff's effectiveness in terms of how well you can "train" them by playing simple mini games that mimic the most simplified aspects of their jobs. Again, less strategy and creativity, but it's easier and mindless.

INTERACTION

One of the game's more ambitious efforts is to give you an actual character in the park, representing you, which can ride rides, play games, and interact with guests. It's a great idea, but the end results are limited. You don't have all that much freedom in designing the look of your character, and you have even less freedom when talking with guests. Possible topics of conversation are made available to you or disappear with no apparent rhyme or reason, ultimately leaving you with no better option than to tell a guest that you like cold pizza because the "How are you?" and "matchmaker" options have both inconveniently vanished. Personally, I'd like to be able to mess with my guests. Sometimes the game will allow you to act disappointed that a little kid doesn't know who you are and then pretend that you've been his best friend for years (which inevitably creeps him out), but then the game only leaves you with kind conversation topics to choose from when you were hoping to see the conversation go down in flames. Finally, while being able to move around the park and ride the rides as a person is a refreshing change, there is no option to view them from omniscient mode. In RC Tycoon, you could watch from a distance and see all your rides operating at once, watching traffic flow, and enjoying the multitude of stories taking place in the park you built. In Thrillville, it's one small area at a time.

Mini Games

Even if everything I've written thus far has turned you off to this game, the mini games alone make this game worth trying. The game contains 50 mini games (though some are only variations of other mini games) which can be accessed either by installing and playing them in your park or by choosing party mode from the main menu, which allows up to four players to take on their choice of mini games (assuming you have four remotes and nunchuks). I'm not generally a fan of mini games, and I've played my share of awful cheap-o mini game compilations for the Wii, but many of the mini games in Thrillville are downright awesome. For one thing, many of the mini games are blatant thefts of classic games from older systems. There's a version of Atari's Slotcar Racer, Nintendo's Gradius, and even a version of the BMX competition from California Games. There are a variety of shooting games as well, and a few games that are probably original -- Sumo Spaceships being my favorite in multiplayer. With 50 mini games, and most of them being better than average, you could ignore the amusement park aspect of Thrillville all together and still get your money's worth here.

All in all, Thrillville is a simplified version of Rollercoaster Tycoon without the strategy and opportunities to be creative, but with a more mindless, effortless approach to amusement park building. That plus the 50 1-4 player mini games (many of which are thoroughly entertaining) makes this game a great value. It may not be the game that you spend hours and hours working on, but it may end up being the classic that you pull out every time your friends are over just so that you can play those favorite mini games a few more times.

Thrillville: Off the Rails Overview

Thrillville: Off the Rails lives up to its name with 20 death-defying rides so outrageous they inspire the same word from every park visitor who sees them: "WHOA!" Players build these incredible "WHOA Coasters" to leap from one track to another launch through the air like cannonballs blast through burning rings of fire and more. The in-depth conversations both advance the plot and suggest better ways to manage the park. But is every guest to be trusted? Red Steel 2

Red Steel 2 Review

The game requires motion plus, which makes the sword fight more fun. And there are so many skill you can learn. The combination of gun and sword makes it even more fun. However, once you completed the game, you can not continue with a new game with different difficulty. You can only creat a new profile. And when you play the new profile, you have to go over all the instructions of the moves again, which is a waste of time. And the story of the game is pretty lame. I guess people who wants this games won't pay too much attention on the story.

Red Steel 2 Feature

  • Upgrade you arsenal of katanas swords, guns and abilities as you rack up victories against the Jackal clan.
  • Embody a lone fighter, a man of few words with a shaded past full of mystery. Face various, and increasingly stronger, enemies and defeat challenging bosses in epic and intense fights.
  • Visit various locations through a remote mixed metropolis in the middle of the American desert, where Eastern culture and Western culture have been smashed together into a hodgepodge jumble.
  • The Wii MotionPlus provides 1:1 recognition where the sword and gun movements are precisely replicated within the game. Slash the villains the way you want. The harder you swing the Wii Remote, the harder the sword swings in the game.
  • Become master swordsman and gunslinger fighting up to six enemies simultaneously; using your sword or your gun at any time; mastering aster combos galore; and, even deflecting bullets with the blade.

Red Steel 2 Overview

In Red Steel 2 Wild West gunplay and Samurai skill with the blade collide head on. Set in a desert-bound, high-tech metropolis a swordsman with no name is nearly all that is left of the once powerful Kusagari-clan. A clan known as "the Jackals", lead by one known as "Payne", are responsible and now it is the Swordsman's duty and you're to avenge the fallen Kusagari.

Red Steel 2 is a single player first-person shooter developed exclusively for Wii and designed to utilize the Wii Remote's optional MotionPlus technology. Players will pick up the Wii Remote and swing it freely as the sword on-screen follows their precise movement - and even measures the strength of their swing. With this added ability of the Wii MotionPlus to sense the strength of a swing, you will literally be able to make an impact on your adversaries through power and precision and even engage multiple pistol-packing enemies at once, deflecting bullets with precise sword strokes. Along with less stylish actions, players rack up points through executing combos, finishing moves and other actions as members of the rival Jackal clan are eliminated. Additional abilities and weapons are earned or are available for purchase as victories pile up.

Red Steel 2 Specifications

Red Steel 2 is a single player first-person shooter that allows the player to blend Samurai bushido ethics with the blade, with the over-the-top gun combat. A Wii exclusive, action is set in a fictional, yet immersive and edgy Western setting and utilizes optional Wii MotionPlus technology to add precision to players actions both with the sword and the gun. This precision of motion allows everything from turning the sword into both a cutting and blunt weapon, to blocking bullets with single strokes as players exact revenge on a rival clan.

Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom Review

Another great version of the Dora and Diego games for young children. We bought the originals while we were searching for simple wii games our young children could play independently.

Very simple controls, very simple levels. They can miss getting half of the items and still complete the level without having to go back.

The controls are identical between the games, just with different backgrounds and stories, my 4 year old can play this independantly and it has a mode which will let an older childen or parent "assist", as well as sets of racing games that they can play together. My children go back and play through levels all the time.

If you want a game for your 3-7 year old to learn how to play on the wii by themselves, this is your game. I was thrilled to see the new titles in the series and will continue to reccommend this game to other parents.

Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom Feature

  • Dora and Friends jump, climb, swing, slide and explore their way through the Crystal Kingdom!
  • Authentic character voice of Dora and other characters from the Dora the Explorer TV Show!
  • Grown-ups can join in using the Helper Feature and a second controller.
  • help restore the color to the Crystal Kingdom by finding all of the color drystals throughout different locations like a butterfly cave, cloud castle and dragon land!
  • kid-tested approval by children and moms for age-appropriateness, fun-factor and quality!

A Little Box With Plenty of Power

As with every console, much of the buzz about Wii revolves around its specs. The Wii boasts 512 MB of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports, and a slot for SD memory expansion. The system's technological heart -- a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway" and a graphics chipset from ATI code-named "Hollywood" -- deliver stunning performance. And instead of a tray, Wii uses a single, self-loading media bay that plays both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system, as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. An additional, and often overlooked, benefit of the Wii is that it uses a fraction of the power of other current gaming consoles on the market, saving energy and money both when it is on and off.

Simultaneous Multiplayer Comes to Super Mario Bros.

Developers at Nintendo have dreamed of creating a simultaneous multiplayer Super Mario Bros. game for decades. The Wii console finally makes that dream come true for everyone with New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Supporting 2-4 players in side-scrolling co-op and competitive platforming action, and featuring a mix of fan favorites and new characters, new power-ups and various input options via the Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus, it is destined to become an instant classic in one of the most beloved game franchises of all-time.

Key Game Features
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or toss them into it.
  • Supports 2-4 players in multiplayer mode.
  • Mario, Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies – or their fellow players.
  • In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote / Wii Remote Plus controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform – and then tilt it incorrectly just to mess with other players.
  • New items include the propeller suit, which will shoot players high into the sky with just a shake of the Wii Remote / Wii Remote Plus and Mario's new ability to transform into Penguin Mario.
  • At the end of each stage during the simultaneous multiplayer mode, players are ranked based on their score, the coins collected and the number of enemies defeated.

A Sports Party in Every Box

One of the most popular Wii party games of all time, Wii Sports offers five distinct sports experiences, each using the Wii Remote / Wii Remote Plus controller to provide a natural, intuitive and realistic feel. Players can use their own Mii caricatures in the game and play them against their friends' Miis for a more personalized experience. As players improve, their Miis' skill levels will increase, so that they can see exactly how much better they've become.

Key Game Features
  • Tennis (1-4 players) - Players grab the Wii Remote like a racket and swing – the game registers forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don't worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position.
  • Baseball (1-2 players) - Players grip the Wii Remote like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park, or fire a fastball over the plate with a flick of their wrist. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats – all fielding and running is automatic, so that players can focus on the action.
  • Golf (1-4 players) - Step up to the tee, hold the Wii Remote / Wii Remote Plus like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly. Be careful, though – if players swing too hard, their ball will fly out of control, so they should be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.
  • Bowling (1-4 players) - Players raise the Wii Remote / Wii Remote Plus in their hand just like a bowling ball, and then swing their arms to roll the ball. The speed of the swing and the angle at which they release the ball affects the ball's spin, so it will take some practice to master control over the ball and knock down the pins.
  • Boxing (1-2 players) - Using the Nunchuk controller as one glove and the Wii Remote / Wii Remote Plus as the other, players dodge, weave and punch their opponents. Players hold their hands high to guard their faces or low to block their torsos. They punch high to hit their opponents' faces or low to get under their guard for a body blow. Swing both arms left or right to sidestep oncoming blows and move into position for a devastating knockout.

What's in the Box

1-Nintendo Wii game console (red), 1-Wii Remote Plus controller (red), 1-Nunchuk controller (red), the original Wii Sports, New Super Mario Mario Bros. Wii, 1-wired sensor bar, 1-power cord, 1-standard composite cable, 1-console stand, 1-console manual.

Wii Party Review

Wii Party isn't the greatest game out there, but it is a lot more fun than I expected, particularly for older folks. It's not just for kids. The mini-games are great when you're pressed for time, whereas House Party games and whatnot take longer but are equally fun. Time bomb is particularly enjoyable. You hand the remote from player to player, trying to beat the clock, but the trick is that if you move to fast or jiggle the controller too much the bomb goes off. Sounds dumb, I know, but I've wasted hours with that thing. The graphics are similar to what you'd expect from Wii, as are the controls, though the color seems a little off, particularly on some of the matching games where it's critical to perceive colors. I haven't seen a full list of what's included, nor have I played all of them yet, but here's a start: House Party games include things like Animal Tracker, Hide n' Hunt, Time Bomb, and Word Bomb. Party games include Board Game Island, Globe Trot, Swap Meet, Spinoff, and Bingo. Pair Games include Friend Connection, Balance Boat, and Match Up. Mini games work for single as well as multiple players and include things like Derby Dash, Smile Snap, Chop Chops, Walk Off, Shifty Gifts, Flap Hurdles, Flying Fruit, Lumber Whacks, Splash Bash, Poserobics, Hide-and-Peek, Commuter Count, Timber Topple, Delivery Duel, Roll to the Goal, Channel Changers, Spring Time, Flycycle Team, Fishin' Buddies, Bumper Crops, Robot Factory, Flashlight Frights, Basket Bonanza, Marching Orders, Garden Gridlock, Tippy Traverse, Banana Blockade, and Clover Hunt.

Wii Party Feature

  • Interactive game boards that utilize player's Miis to roll dice and move across the board
  • Over family friendly 70 mini-games in all
  • 13 different party game modes take the fun out of the TV and into the living room
  • Games utilize the Wii Remote to force players to interact with one another in the real world in ways that affect in-game process
  • Wii Party features multiplayer variety, including competitive and cooperative gameplay

An Electronic Game Board for the Whole Family

Most video games require players to focus their attention on a screen, but now Nintendo brings the action into the living room with Wii Party, a game that changes the way people interact with other players.

Wii Party is a family-friendly party game featuring 13 different party game modes and 70+ mini-games. Individual games are diverse in design, incorporate importable or system generated Miis, and fall into several different categories. These include: Party Games supporting 1-4 players that in some cases utilize an in-game game board, navigated with the use of Miis and dice rolls; Pair Games, supporting up to two players in co-op play; and House Party Games, which support 2-4 live players and utilize the Wii Remote to create differing dynamics between players.

Key Game Features

  • Some of the 13 different party game modes take the fun out of the TV and into the living room. Players have to interact with one another in the real world to get the results they want in the game. Examples of House Party gameplay include:
    • A take off on "Spoons", in which players place their Wii Remotes on a table. Each one emits a different animal noise. Players win the round by being the first to grab the controller that is making the sound of the animal shown on the TV.
    • Players use Wii Remote controllers to play Hide and Go Seek, where one player asks the other players to leave the room and then hides all of the controllers around the living room. When the other players return, they have to find them.
  • Wii Party features multiplayer variety. Some of the party game modes are cooperative, such as "Balance Boat." Others are competitive, such as "Board Game Island."
  • In Board Game Island mode, players help their Mii characters compete in more than 70 different mini-games:
    • Mii characters ride a rollercoaster while players try to shoot down floating balloons containing gifts.
    • Players use their Wii Remote controllers to help Mii characters navigate a virtual game of tag.
  • For multiplayer modes, additional Wii Remote controllers are required and are sold separately.

Story Hour: Adventures

Story Hour: Adventures Review

Not only is it interactive (child is asked, about once every 10 still pictures, to complete a task with the Wiimote), but it is flexible.

Parents can choose to have the voice talent read the story or you can turn the option off and read the story for your child.

While there is a robust Options menu (volume, subtitles, page turning, sound effects), it's a shame that the subtitle size can't be changed. Bigger text would help the younger kids with word recognition.

With each of the four stories lasting about 15-20 minutes (depending on how fast your child is able to handle the interactive tasks), this can potentially be a fun bedtime routine alternative to the standard story time.

Lastly, I found the stories to be non-violent, inclusive and respectful of diversity.

Story Hour: Adventures Feature

  • A modern take on beloved tales
  • Incorporates motion sensitive controls so that parents and preschoolers can tell stories together
  • Four classic stories - Paul Bunyan (illustrated by Stan Chow), Jack & The Beanstalk (illustrated by Simon Scales), Aladdin (illustrated by David Gordon) and The Three Brothers (illustrated by Constanza Basaluzzo.)

Story Hour: Adventures Overview

Classic fairy tales and fables had been passed down from generation to generation verbally and in books. Those traditions are now getting an interactive twist in the Story Hour series. A modern take on such beloved tales as Cinderella, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Paul Bunyan, these tales offer four different stories that incorporate motion sensitive controls so that parents and preschoolers can tell stories together. Story Hour: Adventures features four classic stories: Paul Bunyan (illustrated by Stan Chow), Jack & The Beanstalk (illustrated by Simon Scales), Aladdin (illustrated by David Gordon) and The Three Brothers (illustrated by Constanza Basaluzzo.)

Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution III

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution III Review

The first thing I want to say about this game is that I would rate this game 4 and 1/2 out of 5 if I could. This game Isn't quite five stars. But I will say in spite of that, this is still an amazing game! This is by far a hard core, fast paced, combo fighting game! There is a total of 40 playable characters, all with different playing styles, as well as 40 environments from the Naruto series, and many options for game play rules. There are also many different modes to play with one to four players like survival mode in which you fight as many opponents as you can without losing, time attack in which you try to defeat 10 opponents as fast as you can, co-op mode in which you fight as a team of two against another team, and free for all, which is three to four players. For good advice, I wouldn't recommend playing free for all battles. The reason for this is that in the game your fighter is focused on only one opponent. So if there are more then two players, then It's annoying to try to fight both of them at once. Plus the game lags a bit with more then two players. Luckily this game has a co-op mode which alloys more then two players to play the game at once and still have only two players on the stage at all times. Another thing that's nice about this game is that you can play online against other people. Plus for those who are like me who get annoyed at people who spam games, you don't need to worry as much in this game about coming across spammers, because there is almost always a way to get out of every situation in this game thanks to the substitution jutsu and chakra bar. Basically the substitution jutsu is good for getting out of a beating from an opponent, and start up your own offense. You use the substitution jutsu when getting hit by an opponent. There are two types of substitutions. One that just puts you behind your opponent, and one that puts you behind your opponent and does an attack. And believe me the first substitution may seem pointless since it doesn't do an attack, but it can be very helpful at plenty times of a match depending on who you play and what the situation is. Either way, there are many things you can do with the chakra bar in which you can restore just from attacking, even if you miss. But you get a lot more chakra back when you hit. I could go on forever about all the awesome details of this game, but that would take forever! That's just how good this game is. So why didn't I rate this a perfect game? I mean, this game has everything right?! deep strategy fighting style, good graphics, lots of playable characters and stages, lots of modes, lots of rules to change, not really any cheep ways to play the game, computers and wi-fi if you don't have someone with you to play against. So what is not good about this game? Well, the controls my friend. The thing is, when you attack you use the analog stick and point in different directions to do different combo attacks including up with the analog stick. Now to jump you need to move the analog stick up. Can you tell where this is going? There are many times when I want to do my up on the analog stick and it makes me jump instead. Since this is a fast paced game, I don't have much time to react to get my character to do the move. Another thing that's annoying is that to use paper bombs, you need to hold down both of the dodge buttons to go into the stance in which you can now use paper bombs to put on the ground, in objects, and throw. So sometimes when I try to go into that stance, my character dodges instead. Of course, this is kind of my fault for not being an expert at pressing two buttons at the exact same time. The same goes for going into the hand sign stance, in which by doing hand motions with the wii mote and nunchuck, you can either increase your chakra, or increase your attack power for 15 seconds. The downside to this and the paper bomb stance is that you can't block attacks. Normally when you stand still, if you get hit from an attack hitting the front of you, you won't get hit. You will take a very tiny bit of damage thou, but It's not really noticeable. But there is a guard bar in which as you take damage frequently, will drop. If this bar runs out, you will lose all of your chakra, as well as be vulnerable for about 2 seconds. Now not that it matters to me, but the story line is very short. It follows the Naruto Shippuden series from episode 1-30. The wording in the story is actually very close to the TV series. all thou, there are some things in the story mode that never happened in the TV series. I know this because I frequently watch the Naruto TV series online. I have watched about 180 episodes of Naruto in one month. Before then, I haven't watched Naruto in three years. That why I watch so much now. Now one last complaint about the game is that it's annoying to turn around in the other direction when your character's back is facing an opponent. So beware of this info if you buy this game. Now if you don't believe me about all of this, then try this game out for yourself. Trust me when I say that for less then this game is so worth buying! Even if you don't watch the TV series, or if you aren't a hard core gamer, or both, you can still have fun with this game. Because this is one of those games in which those things don't matter. One can win by buttons mashing, but when it comes to facing a skilled opponent, only the most skilled player will win. Hope this info was helpful, and if you buy this game, enjoy!

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Friday, October 22, 2010

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Review

Are you playing the game? Or is the game playing with you? That's the crux of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

Shattered Memories is an attempt to go back in time over ten years look at the original Silent Hill story through a different lens. It strips away the cult and the vague references to obscure mythologies and mysterious gods, and brings it back to the basic story - Harry Mason searching for his daughter, lost in a car crash. Interspersed with Harry's frantic search is therapy sessions with a doctor, who is walking you through the horrifying events in Silent Hill in a search for the truth while giving you psychological tests to gauge your mental state.

And here's where it really messes with your mind - the game adapts not only to your responses to the doctor's tests, but also to how you play the game. It disorients and obscures and confuses right up until the end, when all becomes clear. And does it frighten? It does indeed.

Harry's search in Silent Hill is made more difficult by a freak snowstorm which has literally frozen the town in. Streets are deserted and snowed over and populated with the ghosts of those who once walked there. In the Wii version, you use the controller like a flashlight, pointing where you want the beam to go. In some areas you receive phone calls or voicemail messages which come through the remote speaker. From time to time you take pictures, revealing more of the past.

And you RUN. When the ice comes and the creatures come after you, you run like hell and you hope it's enough. You can't kill the creatures, though you can throw them off if they catch you, and a flare might give you some respite, but you have to move and move fast to make it. The creatures - horrible, screeching, faceless monstrosities to begin with - change as you play, twisting and warping to suit your personality and playing style. The sequences when they are after you are admirably intense and nerve-wracking.

The story unfolds before you through text and voice messages on your phone, as well as character interactions. Familiar characters are here, but range from slightly changed to nearly unrecognizable, again based on how you play. Cybil Bennett might be angry and conservatively dressed, or she might be a helpful temptress. Lisa Garland is here too, still troubled but also quite changed. And then there's Dahlia - perhaps the biggest shock of the game is the new Dahlia and how she fits into the story.

And how it happens all depends on what you do. What you focus on as you explore matters - do you look at the family photo on the desk or the swimsuit calendar on the wall? Does your gaze linger on the drink on the bar or would you rather look at Cybil's cleavage? Your actions matter too - do you give Lisa the green pill or the yellow one? And of course, the doctor's tests have some effect. Some of these things are conscious, but others will surface just as part of a player's natural style. Manipulating these things to get a different costume or a different ending is do-able, but not like it is in most games.

Simply put, Shattered Memories will trick you and do unexpected things to you.

All in all, Shattered Memories isn't perfect, but it succeeds in its attempt to reshape how we look at Silent Hill, and how we play the game. The control scheme is unique and mostly effective in immersing you in the game, though it gets occasionally frustrating at some of the trickier movement puzzles. The way the story shapes itself to what you do is nothing short of mindbending. The ending is shocking in the best sense, and will make you rethink everything you did to get there.

I've played every Silent Hill game other than Homecoming, and at this point my favorite remains Silent Hill 2. The sense if disorientation, confusion, and fear I had while playing that game remains unmatched - I simply didn't know what to expect. Of the others, Shattered Memories has come the closest to re-creating that feeling, and that alone is enough to impress me.

Who do you want to be today? You decide.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Feature

  • A re-imagining of the original Silent Hill that turns everything you thought you knew on its head
  • The game watches you and adapts to your actions to create a unique experience to each player and intensify their fears
  • Implementation of a cell phone as the user interface, which acts as a story telling device, map, puzzle helper, and camera that provides seamless flow with no interruption in gameplay
  • New nightmare sequence focus on escape and evasion rather than direct confrontation
  • Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will feature an all-new soundtrack by acclaimed series composer Akira Yamaoka

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Overview

The story follows Harry Mason, who wakes up after a car accident to find that his daughter Cheryl is missing. Harry will wander the snowy streets of Silent Hill searching for answers of her disappearance, but when the world freezes over, he will need to escape the lumbering demons that haunt his steps. Harry will need to navigate both worlds to discover the truth; not just about his missing daughter, but also the type of person he actually is. Silent Hill's debut on the Nintendo Wii makes the fear more real than ever before. Players will be drawn into the mysterious town using the Wii Remote as a flashlight and a cellphone as they search for clues. Choices they make will shape Harry Mason, as well as the people he meets and the places he visits. The enemies evolve as well, taking the form of the player's deepest fears. Silent Hill promises to be more terrifying than ever, bringing the fear to Wii, PS2, and PSP.

Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed

Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed Review

The creator's of D.A.H. Have always been pretty good about adding new features to each of the new games. Path of Furon had some nice abilities on the 360 for stopping time.
In D.A.H: Big Willy Unleashed they added a big mechanical burger joint mascot. Which is very fun to use.
1. When Big Willy jumps he damages nearby objects when he lands.
2. He can pick up objects and throw them or swing them at enemies or nearby buildings.
3. He also has lasers that should out of his eyes and he burps up some nasty green green goo that burns all the victims it hits.
4. You can restore his health by grabbing nearby humans and opping there brains into his mouth. Willy is really invinsibile. He can be stopped but when he is fully drained of energy you just use the zap-o-matic to recharge him. As long as you constantly are eating human brains he can't be stopped.

I'm not sure what other abilities if any that he get's. I haven't really got that far into the game. You still get to use the trusty spaceship, but it's just not as fun. It can be disguised as a blimp though to hide from enemies.

Just remember this is based on only about 10% of game completion. I'm sure with more progress and more abilities to unlock that I will only continue to enjoy playing this game.

Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed Feature

  • Unleash destruction on a massive scale in an open world settingin 3 unique ways: on foot as Crypto, in the air (UFO) or in the Big Willy Mech!
  • 5 different environments to explore: Harbor City, Fairfield, Vietnmahl, Fantasy Island & Antarctica
  • Carry out your attacks with futuristic weapons and unique mental abilities
  • Humorous, over the top, non-stop action. Easy to pick up and play.
  • Taking full advantage of the innovate gameplayfeatures of the Wii, Big Willy Unleashed offers easy pick-up and play experience which is easily accessible to casual gamers.

Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed Overview

As Crypto, our loveable alien invader, take on the human race &other enemies once again to harvest valuable human DNA and destroy all humans. Use a devastating arsenal of weapons and mental abilities, take to the sky in your UFO to rain terror from above, or for the first time jump into your Big Willy mechand unleash even more massive destruction.

(REAL NAME)

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a 24-year-old fan of all things musical, including the High School Musical movies. I previously purchased the original High School Musical Sing It for Wii (the one with music from the first and second movies) and was disappointed by the lame graphics and difficult menus... but I still couldn't resist this game when I saw it.

This game is definitely an improvement over the last one! (I plan on ditching my old game completely.) You get to sing along to the actual footage from the movies, and I like the menus much better. All in all I find it to be more user-friendly than the past game, and it has different levels for singing (Easy, Normal, Hard), which is great for beginners. It also allows you to choose which character part you wish to sing by name, rather than having to guess which characters are "Part 1" and "Part 2" in the old game. I thoroughly enjoy this, and went through at least half the songs the first time I played it.

I gave it four stars because I would really like to see an opportunity to download more songs. Wii is a great platform for party/get-together games, and a good karaoke game utilizing the Wii connectivity feature to stream or download songs would be a great thing. Also, I would like to see wireless microphones, because I feel like there's an audio delay between what I see on my HDTV and what I sing... if it had a calibration feature like Guitar Hero, that would improve it tremendously in terms of accuracy.

I may be an "older" fan of the Disney HSM franchise, but I think this would be really fun for kids too, especially if you put it on level "Easy" and just let them rock out!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Review

I will start by saying I am a huge Wolverine fan and pretty much love anything he's in and just had to get some version of this game simply because he's in it and I didn't own it yet, lol

Many people don't like the wii version of this game, preferring instead the "uncaged" editions. I was slightly tempted to buy one of those but not being a fan of anything with tons of blood and gore decided against it.

I decided instead to get the wii version and I have to say unlike the other reviewers I am quite pleased with this game. Though I won't lie and say its the best game ever made, it is good for anyone who doesn't like a bunch of blood and gore but still want to be Wolverine.

The one thing that annoys me is there is button combination's you have to do, the last fight (I don't know if you would call it a boss fight or not?) comes to mind. I would get so far in this long string of button combination's (there's like two parts to it I think that you have to do to kill the enemy) and at the last button would instinctively press the wrong button by mistake. Which resulted in killing Wolverine and having to start all or part of the fight over (I forget which ) to get the boss to the point, where I could defeat him.
Which got very frustrating, to get so far to just barely lose and have to start over.

All and all though for me and those people just like me who want to be Wolverine for a while but skip the blood, this game is perfect. It's not excellent but its not terrible, not especially hard to beat either as I think I did it in one night, lol.

Regardless if your not sure about it either a) try to find somewhere to rent it, b) borrow from a friend or c)buy it used (that way you don't invest much or anything to try it out).

I love it, thought the storyline was very nice, graphics were really good (in my opinion,) and I plan on keeping it and would buy it again.

(I will note though that on some levels X2:wolverine's revenge is slightly better as it is more complex and requires more thinking and planing to beat it. So, you may get your "wolverine" fix better by playing that)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Feature

  • Relentless Combat:Take control of Wolverine¿s indestructible adamantium claws with over one hundred custom moves, reflex quick-kills, and long-range lunge attacks.
  • Real-time Regeneration: Wolverine¿s unique regeneration abilities mend bone and muscle tissue in real-time, allowing for non-stop combat and impossible risk-taking
  • Build up your Rage to unlock astonishing special-moves, combos and contextual attacks, or utilize Wolverine¿s unique animal instincts to expose tactical advantages and weak points in enemies, solve puzzles and discover escape routes.
  • Popular Marvel Heroes and Villains: To uncover Wolverine¿s turbulent past, fight with and against the most popular characters in the Marvel universe. Gambit, Sabretooth, and more combine to make this the most intense action experience in gaming.
  • Cinematic Intensity: Fall to earth from 30,000 feet in the air with no parachute, lunge through spinning helicopter blades, take on entire platoons at once - level after level of epic gameplay awaits.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Overview

Visceral combat. Pure rage. Epic battles. Take on the impossible in your hunt to uncover the secrets of Weapon X¿then exact your revenge.

Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility Review

Just so that you are aware of my experience with Harvest Moon before I begin, I have been playing since the PS2 releases (AWL and StH), and since, I have played MM on Gamecube, Harvest Moon DS (and Cute), and this title. I've been familiar with the series and enjoying it immensely for about 5 years.

When this title came out, I was honestly expecting the monotony that seemed to accompany a lot of the non-Nintendo system releases of HM. I was disappointed with game releases on Wii as a whole, but decided to pick this up when it was on sale anyway.

How wrong I was! This game has so much depth and activity that I can get lost in the days for hours and hours! The progression through your life has so much variety - in the beginning, it's difficult to make money (as it should be!) and you have to primarily forage and work part-time jobs to get going. Once you have a decent stock of money, you can really start with your crops and animals. There is always something more to achieve! Building onto your house, clearing the rainbow events which can require rare items that take planning to obtain, finding your power berries, and growing your relationships!

From the beginning of my play time, I've developed interesting stories through the events with others that I can relay to those who don't find me to be too incredibly geeky. For example, during the Harvest Festival, I had been planning the dish I would make for an entire season (I don't like using guides when I'm playing through HMs the first couple of times) and decided to go with the 'Shark Fin Soup'! I just knew that it would be a great hit since it was rather difficult to fish sharks evidently, but I only got a bronze medal! I was trying to court the gourmet bachelor, Chase, at the time, and was disappointed that I couldn't impress him with my culinary skill. :(

So, now that I've expressed how much fun I have with this game, on to the technical stuff: the graphics are, obviously, quite lackluster, but it's Wii (and it's also Harvest Moon... what kind of graphics do you expect?) HM:ToT is a prime example of how looks matter way less than the gameplay. Some of the sound effects are quite annoying (during storms, it sounds like someone is flushing a particularly large toilet repeatedly) and a few of the controls are shaky; it's VERY easy to mess up your throws if you aren't careful, so be prepared to waste a bag or two of seeds and some stamina in the beginning. Due to the complexity of some of the controls and the story, I wouldn't recommend this title for most kids under 10 years of age. Load times between small areas are a bit disconcerting since the world isn't really that big, but it's not a huge turnoff for me.

I could rave a lot more about how fun this game is, but I think everyone should at least rent and play it for a bit themselves - you won't be able to resist!
