Gameplay
The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest is an action-adventure game designed to allow young players to relive the great battles and events featured in J.R.R Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings". 13 levels of battles, designed to be accessible and family-friendly, are related and relived through the filter of storytelling sessions by the hobbit Samwise Gamgee to his children, with the actions of Aragorn taking center stage. In single player mode the game has players assuming the role of Aragorn, supported by AI versions of familiar characters from the Fellowship and the wider world of the free peoples of Middle-earth. The Wii version also features a co-op play option with the second player assuming the role of the Wizard Gandalf. Throughout the battles, which for the most part stay true to those found in Tolkien's trilogy, the player utilizes the Wii Remote/Nunchuk controller configuration (Gandalf uses the Wii Remote only). Aragorn can engage in both combat on foot and from horseback using his main weapon the sword, Andúril, but he can also wield other weapons and collect other items including torches, shields—both of which utilize the Nunchuk controller—as well as spears and a bow. These can be purchased using gold found throughout the game or as a reward for completing missions. Additional features and functionality including special skills such as Aragorn's "Battle Cry" which terrifies enemies, while strengthening the player and their troops, as well as the ability to upgrade weapons, armor and attacks.
